Regarding the Oak Street corridor issues: we beleive VDOT used contractors (in part) for snow removal. This is understandable, esp. when snow volumes are extreme. However, VDOT needs to be more aware of and more closely supervise contractor performance. We believe rutting and single lane conditions were allowed to 'fester' along Oak for 8-10 days because VDOT didn't check up on contracor work. Also, contracors may not have understood the importance of Oak Street to over 200 homes--which indicates poor communication/ guidance to contractors working along this corridor.
